New Member Spotlight each month

Our Member Spotlight this month is Danny Juarez

It is an honor being selected as this month's member spotlight, and I appreciate the opportunity.

I have been an avid hunter for many years, and have always been impressed with the beauty that taxidermists are able to capture and preserve, through their art.
While attending a gun show, I stopped and asked a taxidermist a few questions regarding the mounting process.  He abruptly, and rather harshly, told me that if he shared any information regarding taxidermy or his techniques, he would be out of a job.

Then my luck changed, when I stopped by Manny Chavez' booth.  He spoke with me and encouraged me to seek further knowledge if I was truly interested!

A few years later, after having several animals mounted by various taxidermists, my wife gently “suggested” that if I wanted to continue my “collection,” I really needed to learn to do it myself.  I spoke with a couple of local taxidermists, Sam and Johnny Blount, who graciously offered to allow me to mount a couple of my own animals in their shop, while they worked on their projects.  They were a constant source of advice and information and even allowed my two small children to tag along, sparking my son's interest as well!

About 3 years ago, I joined the NTA and began entering competitions.  This year I was honored to receive the NM Taxidermy Association People's Choice Award, as well as, the Dan Rhinehardt's People Choice Award.

The best thing about joining the NTA,is the many new friends I have met at the competitions.

I enjoy visiting with them at the shows.  I feel truly blessed that I have been given the opportunities that taxidermy has afforded me.

See Ya at the next show!!!
